From Miro to Klaxoon: The essentials for a hassle-free migration

In the current climate, many companies prefer to stick with isolated or outdated tools either out of habit or out of fear that the change will be too costly. Yet, in the long run, the opposite is often true.

In large organizations with diverse needs, switching tools can indeed become a project on its own. It often requires mobilizing dedicated teams to manage the transition while minimizing data loss.

This conjures images of tedious migrations, testing phases, complex deployments, and a lengthy adoption period. All of this effort could ultimately end up costing more than it’s worth.

This perception (sometimes justified) discourages many companies from exploring new solutions.. As a result, they stick with a system that leads them to accumulate multiple tools and licenses, when a single centralized collaborative platform could meet needs that are currently addressed separately by a whiteboard, a quiz tool, or a presentation tool.

That’s why we’ve designed a quick migration process to make the switch from Miro to Klaxoon easier. In just a few simple steps, you can import your workshops, brainstorming sessions, retrospectives, or training modules, and access Boards where you can start collaborating as a team right away. Here’s how to do it.

Once you’ve exported your whiteboard from Miro, go to the Klaxoon home page:

1. Click the New button in the top-left corner, just as you would to create a new activity.
2. In the menu that appears, scroll all the way down and click Import.
3. Then choose the From Miro option.
4. Select your file, then start the import.

If your Miro board is large or complex, we recommend exporting it in several smaller parts to make it easier to import into Klaxoon.

Once your Miro board has been added as a Klaxoon Board, you can make final adjustments to tailor it to your needs. Add interactive elements and enhance your whiteboard with other Klaxoon activities to take your collaboration even further:

• Interactive questions: multiple-choice, rating, Yes/No…
• A Quiz or Survey to gather feedback from the team or test their knowledge of the tool
• A Memo to remind everyone of best practices or establish the framework for your whiteboard

Finally, make sure all participants have access to the Klaxoon Board with the appropriate permission level, so everyone can continue collaborating without interruption.

For organizations already using enterprise AI assistants, you can also import your Miro whiteboards via the MCP connection.

Thanks to the MCP (Model Context Protocol), your AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) can securely interact with your Klaxoon Boards on one hand, and with your Miro whiteboards on the other, with the same permissions as you have in the Klaxoon interface. In particular, they can create Boards, read their content, add elements, or organize information.

If you have an MCP connection for both Miro and Klaxoon, this is an effective solution for performing bulk imports or providing your agents with additional instructions for converting and formatting your content once it has been imported.

Regardless of the import method you use, Miro elements that have an equivalent in Klaxoon will be automatically converted and will be ready to use on your Board. Please note that some Miro elements that do not have an equivalent in Klaxoon may be misaligned or may not display properly. Additionally, Miro comments are not included in the PDF export feature and therefore cannot be retrieved.

Once your Miro whiteboards have been migrated to Klaxoon, getting started is quick, especially if you’re already familiar with visual collaboration tools.
